| Phonics, Rhythms, & Rhymes |
| Reading success is based on phonemic awareness and skill mastery of blending consonants with consonants to vowels, digraphs, diphthong, and endings. During the fourth grade year the following skills must be taught: CVC, CVCe, CVVC, CCVC, CCVCC, CCVCe, CCVVC, CCCVCC, CCCVVCC, VC, VCC, VCCC, VCe, VVC, CVr, m, n, CCVr, m, n, Cau, ou, ow, ew, oi, oy, CCau, aw, ou, ow, ew, oi, oy. In order to accomplish these objectives the students' learning must be exciting, interesting, and rewarding. To reach children, Phonics, Rhythms, and Rhymes has developed exciting raps, chants, and songlike repetitions, called rhythms and rhymes. Rhyming in rhythms gives children wonderful opportunities to learn the above fundamental skills. The goal of the Phonics, Rhythms, and Rhymes' fourth grade program is to support teachers with the necessary methods and materials that will facilitate reading success in children, and a program that teachers will like as they share in the succes of the children they teach. | Testimonial Phonics, Rhythms, and Rhymes is a very effective method in helping students to catch up if they have gotten behind in learning to read. The program pinpoints every detail when it comes to letter sounds and blending or rhyming. Students are interested in the techniques so they, learn them, and that helps with fluency. Students love to practice their rhymes and are able to catch up faster. They really like doing the exercises because they are appropriate for the older ages and they also see instant results . . . I like teaching with it because it is easy to follow . . . Sara A. Jones Teacher Bessemer Elementary School Greensboro, North Carolina |
