Rapping and Riming are learning activities that emphasizes the sounds of consonants, vowels, and blending them together to form words. This activity also reinforces the recognition of consonant, and vowel letters. Learning the blended sounds of consonant and vowel letters set a strong foundation for Reading; because it teaches syllables, and syllables are parts of words.

When this activity is done with rhythms everyone shares in the fun and excitement of learning. Rap and Rime activities can be kinestetic and tactile simply by clapping and/or moving from side-to-side while standing, or sitting.

The Reading program Phonics, Rhythms, and Rhymes has used Rap and Rime activities from its very inception of using a contemporary approach to teaching Reading.
